The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
Katy Texas Stake
The “No More Strangers” (NMS) Group
Mission Statement
The mission of the Katy Stake “No More Strangers” (NMS) group is to provide “a bridge for those of different backgrounds and cultures as they adapt to their new church environment” uninhibited by church culture, human prejudices and social beliefs which are barriers erected by Man not the Spirit of God.
The NMS is NOT a “African American only group” but rather a group composed of concerned church members from ALL wards/Branches and ethnicities who are willing to become involved in increasing and strengthening the African American members who are struggling in our Stake and to bring forward those African Americans within our Stake boundaries who have NOT have an opportunity to hear and accept the Gospel.
Vision Statement
To bring to reality the words and promises of the scriptures:
“We are the offspring of God” (Acts 17:29)- therefore, brothers and sisters who are of great and equal worth to our Heavenly Father
“We all are alike unto God”... .he denieth none that come unto him, black and white… all are alike unto God…(2 Nephi 26:33)
“Ye are no more strangers but fellow saints in the household of God.(Eph. 2:19)
God is “no respecter of person”- so why should we?
Values Statement
The NMS group appreciates the importance and value of diversity within the Church and will strive to build, recognize and celebrate the contributions of African Americans to the Church; to their communities and to this country.
As stated by President Gordon B. Hinckley at meeting, Nairobi, Kenya, Feb. 17, 1998
“…….. we appreciate the truth in all churches and the good which they do. We say to the people, in effect, you bring with you all the good that you have, and then let us see if we can add to it. This is the essence of our missionary (reaching out) service” .
