Service opportunitites

Here is a wonderful service opportunity that we received from Jenny Bustos (Katy 1):  

I recently did some research on service opportunities available through Katy Christian Ministries. I thought you may want to share this info with the other RS presidencies in the stake so they don't have to re-invent the wheel when planning service projects/activities.  Some of these are great on a large group level, but many of them are great for smaller groups to plan and carry out.  Our whole ward is planning to volunteer in the gardens/orchard in February, and our RS sisters are going to put together and donate some "birthday bags" as part of our RS birthday celebration in March.  It would be amazing if our stake could totally overwhelm KCM with our service.  They are already thrilled about our gardening project and some help that the missionaries will be providing for them at the pantry.  I sent this list out to our ward council members so that auxilaries could keep these in mind when planning activities.  Hoping we as a church can build a strong relationship with KCM!

- hand-made cards. KCM accepts hand-made cards to give to their clients for birthdays or in food bags.

-organizing/sorting items in KCM pantry - they are looking for small groups of people to come in and help organize

-birthday bags: include one of each in a bag:

box cake mix

tub of icing

roll of wrapping paper

powdered drink mix (such as kool-aid)

$5 gift card for a child age 13-15 (fast food or ice cream/yogurt place...somewhere special for them to go on their birthday)

(This list is geared toward teens because that's where the greatest need is right now, but they accept bday bags for children too- see website or call Derrick for details on the kid ones)

-Fun Bags- coloring/activity book and crayons

-they accept donations of anything you can think of- personal care items, food, empty grocery bags, scrubs, stuffed animals, etc.  - Talk to Derrick for details

-garden- there are numerous opportunities available for groups of all sizes in the garden/orchard.  Great opportunity for families/Mormon Helping Hands.  Talk to Charlie Masseck for details: 281-734-7523
